We do get asked quite a bit for first dance suggestions and figure we’d touch on the subject just a bit.
The first dance is one of the most important events for a bride and groom. It gives them a chance to enjoy a dance together for the first time as husband and wife, husband and husband or wife & wife. It’s also a great photo or video memory for family and friends to celebrate the marriage.
Traditionally it would be a slower paced song played in it’s entirety. But sometimes you might have a couple that doesn’t feel comfortable dancing too long in the limelight, so they can instruct the DJ’s to end the song early, usually after the first verse and chorus of the song resulting in about 1.5 minutes of total dance time.
A current trend is the first dance medley that has a mix of slower and up tempo songs that the couple will choreograph a dance to each song which works great as well if executed correctly.
At the end of the day it’s really up to the personality of the couple. Some are more reserved and others like to let loose. Either way, the number one suggestion we have is to do what is most comfortable for the couple. Even with song suggestion, it shouldn’t be forced or too far outside their musical preference.
